Mrs. Janet Tamaklo

Emeritus Chairman


Mrs. Tamaklo is the immediate past Chairman, now the Emeritus Chairman of the Board of Directors of Private Clinics Ltd (Nyaho Medical Centre). She is also a Director on the Board of the Lashibi Funeral Homes Ltd.

She started her career at the Bank of Ghana in 1976 and worked within the Foreign Operations and Administration Departments; she joined Nyaho Medical Centre in 1985 and gained considerable experience in several aspects of the business, including Administration, Human Resources, Purchasing, Housekeeping and Support Services at various periods. She became the Executive Director and, eventually, the Managing Director in 2001.

Mrs. J. Tamaklo made significant strides to modernise the hospital to deliver excellent health outcomes to its clients. She pioneered 24 hour diagnostic and pharmaceutical services, ambulance services and introduced innovative technology such as CT scanning and digital X-ray to the organisation. She has contributed to numerous articles on the role of private healthcare in national and international media such as Newsweek, Fortune and Times Magazines, whilst advocating the need for better quality of services for patients.

She developed the ‘Nyaho way’, the guiding principle by which the staff of Nyaho Medical Centre demonstrate the values of the organisation in order to maintain patient-centredness and she has successfully led the organisation through several crises, most significantly, adequately managing the first suspected case of Ebola in the country in 2014. She retired in April of 2015.

She has held several leadership roles in the Achimota Golf Club of Ghana as well as the Zonta International, and is an active advocate for the role of women and girls in business and education in the country.

Mrs. Tamaklo’s undergraduate degree was received at the University of Ghana, Legon where she earned a BA degree in Sociology.
