1. Who can test for COVID 19?

Covid-19 testing is conducted on all persons who have signs and symptoms of coronavirus. That is, coughing, sneezing, fever, difficulty in breathing, shortness of breath and or high temperature. Also, persons who have been in physical contact with persons who have tested positive for coronavirus.

2. Where is the test conducted?

In Ghana, the tests are conducted in some public hospitals as well as selected private hospitals including Nyaho Medical Centre, Airport Branch every weekday at 10am and 2pm. Testing is also available depending on the availability of medical personnel. Patients are encouraged to call the Nyaho COVID-19 hotline 0209404046 to confirm availability on weekends.

3. How much does the test cost?

The analysis of the test is free because it is currently completed by the Noguchi Memorial Medical Research Institute in Accra. However, patients will be required to pay for the cost of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and lab sampling materials used by the medical team to conduct the test.

4. How long does the test take?

Obtaining the sample for the lab test takes about 15 minutes. However, the process depends on the number of patients booked to have their samples taken.

5. How long does it take to get the results of the test?

Results are typically ready 48hours after samples are taken.

6. Will I be isolated after testing?

All patients awaiting their results for the coronavirus must self-isolate to prevent the spread of possible infection.
